Large parts of Etobicoke were built between the 1950s and 1970s, and buildings constructed before 1990 can contain asbestos in textured ceilings, drywall joint compound and older ceiling tiles. Painting doesn’t disturb it. Scraping, power-sanding and cutting into old materials do. So in older homes and buildings, we roll and brush, limit sanding to light hand scuff-sanding of painted surfaces, and never scrape or sand a textured ceiling. If you want ceiling texture removed, we’ll refer you to a qualified asbestos abatement contractor and return to paint once it’s done. For commercial properties, we review the building’s asbestos records before work begins.
